Leuk verhaal over initiatief van twee collega-HKU docenten die met dichtgetimmerde Mac Mini’s en GarageBand basisscholieren kennis laten maken met muziekproductie.

The Utrecht School of Arts has set up a new course on design for ubiquitous computing / everyware. To my knowledge they’re one of the first to do so in such a matter. Site is in Dutch.

Hinton’s IA Summit 2007 presentation makes the case that IA is not a discipline but a community of practice. Structured like a network, overlapping with other communities, centred around the domain of infospaces.

I saw the new coarse on experience design at the HKU a while ago… And I’m curious, do you think there’s room for such a study at the HKU?
I’m not sure! Time will tell I guess, but it is important that design schools start focussing on this area I think. My impression is that interaction design at the HKU is a very broad course (which is good). The problem is that because of that broadness the urgency of educating designers to start considering the effects of ubicomp is not made clear enough. This new course might address that issue. I’m actually having my game design students consider what it means to design games in a ubicomp world. That’s going to be fun…
